Description: This home movie, likely shot in the 1950s, captures a high school football game between I.M. Terrell High School and Longview Colored High School at Farrington Field in Fort Worth. Opening in 1882 as the East Ninth Street Colored School, Terrell was the city’s first free public school for African Americans. From 1951 to 1966, the school was a part of the Prairie View Interscholastic League, the organization that governed all academic and athletic competitions between African-American high schools in Texas, such as the one seen in this film. The school closed in 1973 following the racial integration of Fort Worth’s schools.
