The Sudden Empire (Persia)

Relates the history of the Archaemenid Dynasty against a background of the deserted city of Persepolis. Explains how Darius the Great adapted methods and ideas from other civilizations, including the Assyrians, Egyptians, Babylonians and Greeks. Points out how the adoption of the Lydian system of coinage enabled Persia to become a dominant power, until its sudden fall to Alexander the Great.
