Description: In this home movie from 1961, a family takes a road trip to California. Along the way, they first stop at Alamo Village, a movie set on the ranch of James T. “Happy” Shahan in Bracketville. Featuring a three-quarter-scale replica of the Alamo compound, the Village was built for John Wayne’s The Alamo (1960). Turned into a tourist attraction after production wrapped, the site was subsequently used in over 100 other westerns. Next, the family checks in at the Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center in Langtry, visiting the Pecos Canyon Trading Post and Roy Bean opera house. Finally, they make it to California, where they spend the day at Disneyland and meet with friends in Hollywood.
