The Pygmies of the Ituri Forest

Examines the primitive yet structured society of the Efe Pygmies in Zaire, Africa, as observed and photographed by anthropologist Jean-Pierre Hallet. Shows the basic family structure and the rapid physical growth of both the male and female, describes the sex roles that prevail in the society, and depicts a Pygmy funeral ceremony. Discusses how these people, who have lived for hundreds of years in harmony with nature, may someday fall victim to the ever-encroaching lumber companies and plantations.
