An examination of an artistic group which emphasized form and the decorative and became known as the Nabis or prophets. Homage à Cézanne by Maurice Denis opens the film because it reaffirms that the Nabis saw their movement as a development of the work of their predecessors. The film includes work by Gauguin, Serusier, Vuillard, and an illustrative comparison with Toulouse-Lautrec.
