Explains that transfer is composed of the elements of erosion, which removes rock--transportation, which moves rock and deposition, which produces rock. Points out that faults, intrusions and fossils are other indications of the passage of time. Discusses the principle that like fossil assemblages at two points indicate like geologic ages of the rocks sur rounding them.
