Description: Examines the music therapy approach developed by Paul Nordoff and Clive Robbins which is being used with autistic and severely retarded or emotionally disturbed children. Illustrates how music therapy can form a bridge of communication between therapist and child. Demonstrates how atonal melodies are modeled after each child's particular cries and utterances, allowing the child to express inner feelings. Includes examples of individual sessions and more advanced children in group therapy.
