out of the talent marshland mists from the dark primordial pools out of the very air they breathed so it seemed to our ancestors came their ancient enemy malaria centuries ago men knew it severs but sought their causes in vain in China they were described as the fever demons the headache demons and the demons of shivering kill wise men tried to cast them out but malaria remained the great scourge destroying more of the human race than any other disease today we know the demons which cause malaria are protozoan parasites transmitted in the case of men by female Anopheles mosquitoes while taking the blood meal which they need to mature their eggs after biting the mosquito injects saliva into the wound to prevent blood clotting lying in the salivary glands or sporozoites the infective forms of
