This satiric treatment of the Hollywood Dream was influenced by The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and German expressionism. An aspiring actor is relegated to the lowly position of extra, and is branded on the forehead with the number 9413. His dreams of glory and stardom are contrasted with the reality indicated by the sign No Casting Today. In the end, he dies and is transported to heaven where his brand is erased. Some of the background visuals were made with cardboard images, erector sets, and common kitchen utensils., Uses such experimental film techniques as stop action, superimposition, fade-in, and fade-out, and relies heavily on models to achieve the surrealistic effect of the life and death struggle of an aspiring young actor, #9413. Depicts 9413 as a young man who dreams of becoming a success in Hollywood but finds that only loneliness and destitution await him.
