Complete Record: Jackie Robinson is best remembered for his achievements as a Brooklyn Dodger. However, even before he started college he was considered to be one of the best athletes in California. He was the first UCLA student to letter in 4 sports: basketball, baseball, football and track. Following his stay at UCLA, Robinson entered the army to serve during World War II. Played basketball in the Negro league. In 1947, Robinson started playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Both Negro and white clubs reacted negatively. During Robinson’s ten years with the Dodgers, he led his team to five pennants. In 1955 Robinson led his team to their first World Series victory with a steal of home that has been called one of baseball’s most exciting moments. Robinson also made his mark as a leader in civil rights. He worked with leaders such as Martin Luther King. In 1962, Robinson was elected to Baseball’s Hall of Fame.
