The Island called Ellis

Presents the epic of 40 million immigrants and their impact on America as seen from the viewpoint of the place in New York Harbor where the flood tide of immigration occurred. Tells of the unsympathetic bureaucracy, prejudice and hostility which often faced the newcomers. Describes the island's additional function as a place of deportation. Concludes with the island's closing in 1965, and Note s it is to become part of a national park.
