Description:
This 1970s promotional film was produced for the Handley and Miller Ad Agency by The Film Makers Inc. This extremely bizarre film features a man (the interviewer) speaking to a rural family about their total electric living. They gradually reveal that they have all of their electric needs covered by hooking a cable to the neighbor’s electric fence. This film was originally created by the Indianapolis ad firm Handley & Miller to promote the concept of "Total Electric Living", and draws on some West Virginia stereotypes and some comic references to the movie "Deliverance" for its punchlines.
0:07 a Greyhound bus with multiple different license plates pulls up to a stop and a man in a suit named "Happy Handley" steps out and speaks to the camera about the total electric world of tomorrow, 1:05 Handley jumps over a fence and runs towards a rural building, 1:20 “The Interviewers are Coming!”, 1:51 a hick with a gun confronts the man in the suit, 2:24 the mans sons meet the man in the suit, 2:43 the man in the suit begins interviewing the hillbilly with the gun about electric heating, 10:21 a man dressed as a women brings out an electric blanket, 10:42 Handley the interviewer runs off in a hurry and gets back on the bus, 11:11 the hayseed rural family waves goodbye, 11:24 “The End”, 11:37 produced for Handley and Miller by The Film Makers Inc.
