Description: Presents, through observational filming, a contemporary look at the descendants of two families, the Allans and the Kathans, who settled in an isolated hollow in the southern Adirondack mountains of New York and eventually intermarried and became one family. Observes the residents as they go about their daily chores, allowing them to speak for themselves about pain, joy, poverty, and the "outside world". Includes the singing of a number of unaccompanied ballads.
