Description: Detailed study of the culture and economy of vast empire of ranching, farming, and mining that was once called the Great American Desert. Covering the 1,300 miles between Minot, North Dakota, and Del Rio, Texas, the film presents the physical and cultural differences and similarities of the region. The city of Amarillo, Texas, is cited as an example of how many of these great plains cities grew.
