Observes "amateur night" at Harlem's Apollo Theatre where new black performers from all over the world try to start their careers. Shows Dave, a young man who learned a trade while in prison and now has a successful job, talking about himself as a husband, father, and black man. Explains that black freshman Representative Ronald Dellums sees the great American dream as a nightmare for millions of blacks and discusses the frustrations he encountered during his first year in Washington.
