Description: In this program, criminologist Joseph D. Lohman points out that the families of offenders are lost in the community after the husband/father is sent to prison. He mentions the economic problem of the loss of a wage earner and the emotional impact on children. Filmed scenes show the limited contact inmates have with their families and the effect on the inmate is brought out during an interview. Mrs. Killings and Lohman review the impossibility of holding a family together through the mail and infrequent visiting days. Mrs. Killings points out that these families become broken homes, which in turn produce a disproportionate number of delinquent children.
