Description: Structured from birth to death, this experimental collage film encompasses a composite lifetime passing through the celebration and struggles from childhood to adulthood, from innocence to experience. This universalistic portrait of family life and its rituals was made from a vast collection of rare 16 mm home movies from the 1920's through the 1950's. The subjects span the spectrum of the traditional home movie idiom and reflect varied racial, ethnic, economic and geographic sources. The soundtrack is composed from oral history interviews and a wide range of recordings from family life.
