boy what an assignment what's so hard about making a movie about the environment it shouldn't be that hard yeah come on let's go I've got an idea [Music] [Applause] should we get some books and films on the environment at the library that's okay but let's take a look at our own environment first hey don't waste fil on that why not it's part of the environment isn't it that's not the environment look Marty the environment everything around us people houses even your part of the environment but we're supposed to show different kinds of environments not just our own Mar we have to start somewhere why not take our own environment first and worry about the rest later [Music] okay how can we get a better look at our environment you'll [Music] see okay boys be careful and don't go too close to the edge we won't thanks Mr Jones wow look out there we'll get some good pictures up here look at all those buildings I suppose they call this the man-made environment yeah even this smug is man-made if this was clean air we could see all the way to the suburbs I know air and sunlight are part of the natural envir but they sure don't look natural here that sure's a big lake out there we've got plenty of water here I wonder what it's like in places where there isn't much water like a desert hey Marty I can see a desert out there where maybe it's Mirage Mar I was only fooling you know if you look out there long enough you can imagine almost anything even a desert I know what a desert's like last year our family drove across the desert it was really hot we didn't see water for Miles we saw houses where nobody lived anymore because the wells ran dry sometimes it gets so dry the soil blows away they can't grow food without water and soil you mean nothing can live there oh sure there are some plants and animals that live in the desert some people live there too cuz they can change it they bring in water we saw a big irrigation project they pumped water all the way from the mountains to grow crops in the desert Mrs lster said water is necessary for all living things that's why we have to show the desert in our film we can use some pictures that my dad [Music] took I still don't know how we're going to show all the different kinds of environments Marty what about an environment where there's lots of water you mean like a swamp of the Everglades we have some movies of the Everglades is at home well let's see them good idea I never thought the environment was such a complicated [Music] subject get the [Music] light hope our footage turns out so do I there's the film on the Everglades Marty well let's see it okay I'll put it on the viewer there how's that for water that's beautiful but it doesn't look like an easy place to live it's great for gators gators I can do without sure looks hat temperature is important in the environment my uncle says the Everglades are hot and humid look at that crazy boat it's an airbat any other kind will get tangled up in the samp grass do people live there sure they do they're draining the Swarms to build roads and houses what'll happen to the Gators though I don't know want to use it yeah but what about places where it's cold you mean like Alaska yeah the North Pole got an uncle in Alaska too Eric my brother took some pictures of Eskimos when stationed up north well let's see him okay making a movie can sure get complicated I know that sure looks cold what are those Eskimos doing they're making use of their environment cutting blacks of ice to build Igloo how can they find food in that environment Marty there's water and fish under the ice they can live up there if they want wo but not me that looks like an oil well it sure is my brother says people are changing this environment too what about this mountains that's rough country it doesn't look like anybody lives there somebody must have cut down all those trees even in a rough place like this people try to change the environment to make it livable now what about this I'd say that's a great environment hey that's me where'd that come from I took this when we went fishing last summer remember what you caught sure I do if you think that's bad you should see what they catch in some rivers and lakes yeah I know Marty maybe our film ought to be about pollution but that's not what Mrs ler asked us to do but it's our film how can we get pictures of pollution take them it shouldn't be that hard come on I suppose people are part of the environment too sure they are you know something I just discovered that sound is part of the environment that's noise pollution hey look at that pick that over there what a shot hey quit clowning no dumping that's a joke everybody's dumped something here [Music] gee what's that yuck hey let's get that old car just what I've always wanted a real sports car I bet you can't drive it out of here Eric bet this was a neat car once I guess the more people there are the more junk they leave around can can you imagine anything growing here we can get lots of pollution shots here look at all those cars Marty I've been thinking maybe the environment does things to people maybe it does that water isn't good for the environment [Music] suppose you had to drink that no thanks hey look over [Music] there Pew nothing not to smell like that where's it coming from that that factory over there can't get inside from here come on we can take some pictures it's too bad we can't record the smell yeah what have we got so far Marty let's take a look that's a neat title this shows that everything around us is part of the environment the natural environment in the man-made environment [Applause] here we show how people can adjust to different environments and this shows how people are changing the environment and here here we show how people can mess it up [Applause] [Laughter] pretty good Eric but how are we going to end our film gee I don't know hey I've got an idea take a look at this this shows how people are learning more about the environment exploring the ocean that's neat wow space that's an environment too that's one of the first trips to the Moon there's the [Music] landing even out in Space the astronauts have to take their environment with them air water and food that shows how people need their own environment [Music] Marty remember what one astronaut said about the Earth he said it was an island of life and space that has to be protected from its own people yeah that gives me an idea for ending our film remember when we took those pictures of air pollution yeah suppose we take a few more beautiful you look so funny Eric hope you won't have to wear it all the time [Music] [Music]
