Deals with remote places of the earth by the use of a conflict between two fathers and their sons which had a direct bearing on whether a far-out English Island was allowed to live or forced to die after they suffered from the mainland's motor fishing boats encroaching on their only economic source of survival. Concludes with the thought that as all outer isles of Scotland, it died.
The film begins with a yacht passing by the remote island of Hirta. The yachtsman finds a gravestone on the edge of a cliff, and Andrew, who turns out to be a former islander, starts to reminisce. Andrew's friend Robbie Manson wants to leave the island and explore the wider world. Robbie's sister, Ruth Manson, is Andrew's sweetheart, and the young couple are quite willing to stay.
