Description: Commissioned by Texaco, this 1977 industrial film introduces the company’s oil exploration operations. Presented as a narrative rather than a documentary, the film follows a young man named Matthew as arrives in New York and begins a job at Texaco. In his travels between the company’s corporate offices and offshore drilling sites, he learns about Texaco’s exploration efforts in the Atlantic Ocean and the technology used to study seismic recordings. The film also features an appearance from future “Dallas” star, Audrey Landers. Originally known as the Texas Fuel Company, Texaco was established in Beaumont following the discovery of oil at Spindletop in 1901. By 1928, it became the first American oil company to sell its gasoline nationwide under a single brand name. Texaco merged with the Chevron Corporation in 2002.
