The bespoke overcoat

This Academy Award-winning short subject transfers Gogol's story to the Jewish neighborhood of London's East End. Fender, a frail, elderly clerk for a clothing manufacturer asks his boss for a sheepskin coat to ease the chill of the warehouse where he works. When his request is refused, Fender's friend Morry, a poor tailor, offers to make him a coat at cost. Fender dies before the overcoat is completed. Returning from the dead, Fender visits Morry, and together, they exact a just revenge on the uncompassionate employer.

Fender is a lowly clerk in the warehouse of clothing manufacturers Ranting and Co. His one ambition is to have an overcoat of his own. Refused one by the coldhearted Ranting, he asks a tailor friend, Morry, to make him one instead, but dies of cold before he can take delivery of it.
