Complete Record: The relationship between people and their land is a very intimate one with broad personal and social implications. The film portrays this relationship in the life of the Simpson family who represent an American generation that settled Kansas Territory. Through the perspectives of an individual family , the broader economic, political and social issues of the day emerge, including the land-related conflicts which resulted in the Missouri Compromise, the Civil War,and the enmity between the cattlemen and the farmers. The film delineates the events and attitudes which have helped form the “American Character.”
