[Music] d [Music] the [Music] excuse me can you tell me where I can find a WYA he didn't do nothing oh do you know him no well how do you know if he did anything or not nobody did nothing I see I was wondering I just stopped off at his apartment talked to his mother she said he often comes to this part of the park sits on a bench and uh play his guitar oh yeah Juan bedya Juan bedya oh yeah that's me that's you yeah ju I'm not a policeman or anything I'm a social worker I'd like to talk to you may I sit down it's not my bench you know oh well I can see in the office if you like no are you waiting for somebody no you're not doing anything playing my guitar I mean other than that you're not doing anything no that's what I want to talk to you about Juan your mother tells me you've been spending a lot of time here in the park uh missing school she said as a matter of fact last term you took a very early summer vacation yeah in the winter that's right last summer you just kept going around the horn she said you haven't enrolled this fall I thought maybe I could sit here and talk to you a while find out why you're not in school get it cleared up and get you back in you don't need to go to no trouble oh no it's no trouble at all it's my job I'm a social worker can you give me any reasons why you don't go to school a lot of reasons the one reason is that the teachers talk very fast oh I see in other words you've got a language problem no they got a language problem the teachers have a problem yeah you know to talk more slow but I could understand what they're talking about I see do the teachers laugh at you no I laugh at them because when I tell them to talk more slow they didn't do it uh I believe was dead in Espanol no I don't speak Spanish uh no oh I know that talk you do oh yeah they got guys in South America talk like that yeah in Argentina yeah with the funny front names and the Spanish back name that's right I thought maybe he spoke some German no I don't talk that Al man al man I don't talk that ju let me ask you something uh have you ever thought about going back to San Juan oh no no I don't mean anything like that I don't mean get out of New York we don't solve our problems that way what I meant was uh you go back to San Juan you certainly know the people there you know the language you know the environment problems you could adjust better that means get along better am I talking too fast no in the far place I would never R someone in my life except by 1 hour to take the airplane to come here oh but you're from Puerto Rico yeah you know but they got a different place there someone oh yes I'm sorry yeah where have you came from then and the next thing is that I would like to go back there you would yeah well maybe we can work it out no no my mother is here in New York oh know I just talked to your mother my family is here in York and my friends are here and their families are here in New York so I don't know no about in Puerto Rico no more I see and the one more thing is that I read in laen last week La yeah you know the Spanish newer they say there's more Puerto Ricans in New York Benny someone yes I know I read that in the New York Times well that's out what about the what about changing schools you could go to a different kind of school I've been to three schools no no I mean a a technical school of some kind uh you could take up any uh number of Trades uh uh you could learn how of mold plastic well that is an excit too what about a what about shop training of some kind auto mechanics welding or something like do I stop why not you break your fingers from that I couldn't play the guitar no more oh well you could take something lighter you could take up a uh commercial course of some kind uh typing and shorthand work in an office to be a secretary work in an office what's the matter to be a DI riter I got a girlfriend those she going to come here and say what are you doing one I'm going to say my secretary oh that's for ladies to do I oh no a lot of men work in offices and type I do a you're going to be a lady well what do you want to do just sit here and do nothing is that it or you want to roam the park here with your friends breaking glass or jumping the buildings up there from roof to roof getting your kicks up there is that what you want to do I don't do that stuff you don't jump on those rooftops I don't jump them buildings you don't no you can get killed by jumping them buildings in fact I was up there last week to see them guys jumping up there uhhuh I seen these guys up on the roof I say hey don't do this you're going to fall in your head from this yeah so one guy says what the hell of this you don't know about that he jumps he falls on his head then the other guy say hey that's right you know what one you're a leader you're a leader no I mean that people listen to you they follow your example I tell him not to fall in their head well it's an example isn't it let me ask you don't you want anything don't you want to get out not that the weather's like this wouldn't you like to get out in the country or in the summer wouldn't you like to go out on the beach in the summertime get out of the city i' like to do that fine you have to have a car to do that don't you my friend Rudy has your car no no I mean a car of your own wouldn't you like to have your own car like to have a car then you've got to go back to school and get a job and earn it not going to fall out of the sky if I get a car it's going to fall out of the sky no no no that's wishful thinking one no that's the way I'm going to buy a car you think so yeah you know how to buy a car yeah I know how to buy a car you don't know I tell you how to buy a car how do you buy a car for place you got to buy the stin insurance well that's the law $180 That's the Law you have to protect the other guy NE next thing you got to buy the stinking Life play well that's you have to register the car that's the law maros don't you buy a stinking car well if you want it you have to buy a car by this time you couldn't buy new car you're going to buy ju car yeah it's going to break in three months to be sitting in the street the meantime to get tickets from from the B to park illegal that's the way I'm going to buy a car well what what about a house wouldn't you like to excuse me get out of that stinking apartment wouldn't you like a house if I can't buy a car how am I going to buy a car it takes time that's what I'm trying to tell you a mortgage 25 30e mortgage I have something for my grand something isn't it yeah they come to me I'm an old man they say grandpa what you got for me I say mortgage $20,000 don't you uh don't you want to get married and have a family no you don't want to get married my six girlfriends what I need to get married for well I see your point there what about what about a job you do just for the sake of doing it wouldn't you think that maybe in it itself all right music What About Music would you like to go back to school and go to college and study music what don't need to do that I can play now I don't need to go to college no no I mean as a profession you're earn your living from me play now if they give me a job you can yeah in fact last month for a job job playing music finally I look and look and look and finally I found a job in a bar a bar yeah they said no salary you get tips you what you get tis tips tips so I worked there for two nights for tis they give me beer I got drunk I couldn't play no more yeah prob you want to do one just sit here is that it don't you want to well but what about helping people would you like to do something like be a social worker they're not going to give me that job no they're not going to give it to you you have to earn it you have to go back to school and go on to college and you know become a social worker they're not going to give me that job well they're not going to give it to you but you can do anything you want to do I can't yes you can I can't well I sorry I couldn't help you one it tried mind if I talk to your mother I'm going by that way I bye one hey wait a minute what's the matter I don't want to make no trouble you know oh no it's no trouble I told you I want to help you try it you see I'm a bum you know that no you're not a bum you're too young to be a bum I'm a young bum I'm trying to keep you from being a bum see you don't understand what what look let's let's talk about different talk about from your point what your point or my point of view your point of view you got a car no I ride the bus or Subway I don't have a car I've had cars okay all right then or you got a car then I've got an apartment you don't got a house well I'm not hope to have one one day so what you tell me all this stuff or you don't got nothing I want what do you mean I I don't have a house now but it takes time you 10 years older than me you don't got it now what am I going to get it you going to take me 90 years all I don't want it then okay we'll take something you got a wife then no I'm not married I hope to be married someday and okay then you got a girlfriend oh I go out with girls yeah in the office I take them occasionally what are you talking like this for you got one or not I don't care you mean a steady girlfriend yeah a lady girlfriend no nothing steady I you don't got a girlfriend no good looking guy like you don't get a girlfriend no girls cost money and I Le you to buy one you know no I mean you know you take them out you have to spend money on them you know what what I could teach you a couple of things yeah I bet you could could you Could you teach me Spanish oh no that's a hard language Spanish well I know some French and German oh no Spanish is more hard than frenh I see I'll tell you what Juan I'll make a deal with you you'll let me come here a couple afternoons a week and sit on the bench and talk to you I'll help you with your English if you teach me some Spanish you can come here if you like to come is it a deal okay and you can introduce me to a lot of your friends here figure out their problems I know what you're looking for you're looking for girlfriend oh yes oh yes well if you know I knew that you know no no everybody I knows for me you don't share not ladies I don't share them okay we'll stick to languages oh wait what no nothing you know somebody I don't know nobody you got a friend I got nothing cousin no I tell you h say that I got a sister that's not married yet you know she's 24 years old she never goes out with Gringos you know well maybe if you teach me Spanish I won't be a gringo oh you're still going to be a gringo still well all right well you know I was going to say that she comes here sometimes for lunch she sit here with me and if you're here then I got to say that's a friend of mine and we see what she says what are you playing out here what are you singing I heard a song when I came along what was it that
