Complete Record: “The Trumans at Home”- President Truman and daughter Margaret arrive at Kansas City to spend a few days there, they are greeted by Mrs. Truman and President Truman’s brother and sister, then gather at the “little white house” in Independence, where a new electrical fence has been installed to keep intruders away; at the Jackson County courthouse, where he once served as judge, a picture of him is presented, then outside he unveils a bronze statue of Andrew Jackson; “Holiday Gift for Lifer”- At Sing Sing Prison, Warden William Snyder says goodbye to Louis Boyd, whose life sentence for murder was commuted by Gov. Dewey after 18 years, after subjecting himself to medical experiments such as having some blood of a Leukemia patient pumped into him and his own healthy blood given to a young patient girl; “Illegal Entry Probe Asked”- After a probe of illegal aliens, Democratic Congressman Ed Gosset of Texas speaks on how NYC, being a major point of entry, constituted a major immigration problem and that the reasons for it were that there were loopholes and red tape in immigration laws, the immigration forces were inadequate, and judges were reluctant to enforce the laws; there were different types of illegals such as stowaways, deserting seamen, visitors that slipped in and didn’t go home, so he suggested that the FBI should get involved; “Pedal-Copter”- A flying contraption that included a balloon and foot pedals is demonstrated by a civilian Naval employee at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, New Jersey, although the Navy had no interest in it; “Holy Year”- Scenes at Vatican as 1950 holy year begins where outside St. Peter, 35 thousand people await word that it has begun, Pope Pius XII opens the holy door of the church to proclaim the year as Italian government officials, Roman nobility, and diplomatic core; the people procession approaches with the pontiff being carried on a throne, who then symbolically breaks down the door to the church; “Gary Davis Plans for 1950”- He is traveling to Germany to help build a community to show that people are not each others enemies but that the presence of famine, ill-clothed people and human suffering are the enemy and if Germany can deal with them, then the challenge would be taken up by the rest of the world that believe in human life; “Homeless Kids Get Care”- Juvenile delinquency is a major problem in Mexico, so the boys are picked up in a Mexican White Cross van and taken to a boys’ club where they’re given a haircut and cleaned, given new clothes and a health exam; morning starts w/ exercises in gym and manual training courses are taught, then they’re put out to work on the streets; they can stay as long as they want; “News in Brief”- In Korea, Angus Ward talks about his detention in Red China for a year for beating a Chinese citizen, he talks about it being hellish because he was only fed bread and water; in New York, Acting Mayor Vince De Pelliteri officiates a ceremony where the Italian government presents the Medal of Military Valor to the parents of a young man executed by a Nazi firing squad in 1944; in the Atlantic Ocean, a training session on a naval carrier for artic warfare is carried out by the officers; “People in the News”- The Duke and Duchess of Windsor arrive in NYC on the Queen Elizabeth, where he says he is writing his memoir and she denies accepting a job there, they’ll spend a month there then go to Canada at their ranch; the O’Dwyers of NY are on their honeymoon in Florida and are fishing before Mayor O’Dwyer goes back to NY; Governor Dewey meets with top city officials to discuss plans to tap the Hudson river to deal with the water shortage; “The Woman’s Page”- Saks Fifth Avenue fashions come to Florida to Palm Beach to display new styles, such as dresses and casual pants for women; “Court Comics”- Harlem Globetrotters play against the New York Celtics, while performing their signature moves; “Miracle in the Bull Ring”- In Mexico, the first bull fight ever filmed occurs, which unfortunately leads to the bullfighter being mauled but managing to kill the bull at the end
