Terence Martin of Indiana University discusses the ways in which Melville establishes the primacy of the sea, the dignity and importance of whaling, the nobility of man as a creature of God and the greatness of the whale as a creature of the sea in 'MOBY DICK.' He warns against symbol hunting in the novel.
