TAKE A PUFF, IT'S SPRINGTIME

Year Published: 1960s

Format: 16mm

Description: Dating to the late 1960s, these TV commercials for Salem Menthol Cigarettes asks viewers to imagine that the "country" branded cigarette produces a "springtime" feeling. The second ad features the tagline as a jingle: "You can take a Salem out of the country but you can't take the country out of Salem" with the added line "Take a puff, it's springtime." These were the brand's original taglines following its introduction in 1956 by R.J. Reynolds; today the brand is owned by Imperial Tobacco Group. Salem's name (and of course the Winston brand itself) derives from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the founding city of R.J. Reynolds. Unlike many other brands, Salem's formula uses special Asian menthol. HEALTH WARNING: Cigarettes KILL. Nicotine is ADDICTIVE. When inhaled, MENTHOL can reduce airway pain and irritation from cigarette smoke and suppress coughing, giving smokers the illusion of breathing more easily.PeriscopeFilm 702K subscribers Videos About Support Us on Patreon
