Description: Original camera footage edited for broadcast for KNTV San Jose Channel 11 news on October 21, 1966. Reel 1: Segment 1 (sound): Santa Clara Board of Supervisors Chairman Charles Quinn says that he wants to recoup any outstanding taxes due to the County as soon as possible as a result of the investigation into the County Tax Assessor's office. [This story is in the October 20, 1966 broadcast script] Reel 2 (sound): Gubernatorial candidate Ronald Reagan speaking to a crowd at San Jose's Civic Auditorium. He talks about federal and state handling of labor disputes and gets loud applause for his line, "Never should anyone sit down at the negotiating table without the public being represented." Segment 2 (sound): San Jose City Councilman Joseph Pace wants the City of San Jose to help the County to recoup missing taxes to help property owners in San Jose. He's asked about former assessors Hayden Pittman and George Noll, who were implicated in the report by Thomas Lynch that found the Santa Clara County Tax Assessor's office engaged in unquestionably illegal practices. Pace says with a wry smile that he Pittman is in Mexico and he doesn't believe we'll see either men on the voter rolls in the County any time soon. [This story is in the October 20, 1966 broadcast script] Reel 3: Segment 3 (sound): Man speaking about the Santa Clara Valley retail market and how hot it is. "When an area is growing there's a tendency to open new markets. When there are more new markets than there are new population, then you get to the point where the retailers are vying for the consumers dollars to keep their businesses going and keep their doors open. This is one of the hottest areas in the United States." Reporter, "You're referring to the Santa Clara Valley." "I'm referring to the Valley, where the prices are as low here, and we invite comparison to anywhere else in the Western states..." Segment 1 (sound): Interview with San Jose State football coach Harry Anderson about the team's condition and readiness for their upcoming game against Texas Western. Segment 2 (sound): Footage of the San Jose State Spartan freshman football game against Stanford University, in which Stanford won. Broadcast script reads, "The Spartababes had a tremendous performance by Mike Scrivner, halfback, on both offense and defense. In the first quarter a last minute shoestring tackle stopped him from going all the way. A second quarter touchdown that would have put the San Jose contingent ahead was called back because of a referees call. He charged there were ineligible receivers down field when a pass was thrown. Actually it was an overhand lateral, but the officials are right. The Indian babes won 28 to 7 in a game that may have cost the Spartababes their quarterback. Dick Armstrong was injured in the first half but didn't say anything to coach John Webb. In the second half he was hit and had to be helped from the field.
