Episode number 1 of Series “The Crossroads of the world: a study of North Africa and the Middle East” This film sets the scene for the series, reviewing the cultural background of the North Africa-Middle East region as well as its geography. Ity traces the origins of the Islamic peoples, discusses Mahomet and his teachings, and shows the extent of the Arab conquest and its contribution to our arts, science and technology. The film closes with the decline of Islam, its retreat and isolation from the world through many centuries.
