[Music] Stitchery is the Art of decorating [Music] cloth. When cloth is decorated with yarn and thread, it is called embroidery. [Music] Embroidery can be like drawing because with yarn you can draw lines and shapes and fill them in. [Music] Heavy lines of yarn can be stitched to the surface of a fabric. [Music] knotting the yarn is a way of making small spots of bright [Music] color. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] With these simple embroidery stitches, you can create a variety of patterns and textures. [Music] Texture gives embroidery its special quality. It comes from the yarns you use, the stitches you use, and the way you arrange them on the background. [Music] Needle point is a type of stitchery in which yarn is sewn to a special canvas backing. The needle point stitch is very regular and it fills the canvas backing completely. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] Applique is a type of stitchery in which designs are created from pieces of [Music] cloth. In applique, cutout shapes are sewn to a cloth background. [Music] Sometimes applique is combined with emroid. [Music] embroidery. The cloth shapes can be varied by cutting into them. [Music] These simple materials, yarn, thread, and cloth, offer many new experiences in color and design. [Music]
