Description: Uses animation to explain properties of size, temperature, color, and brightness of stars. Explains that through the use of a spectrograph scientists have determined that stars are made of the same elements as the sun. Demonstrates the method used to determine the mass of certain stars by observation of their movement in relation to one another. Instructs that stars of greater mass have a greater gravitational pull toward their centers, causing fusion of the nuclei, and the release of part of their energy. Concludes that a star's mass controls its temperature, color, brightness, and longevity.
