Shows how Penn's interest in the Society of Friends and freedom of religion led to his arrest under the Conventicle Act of 1664 and his disinheritance by Admiral Sir William Penn, his father. Explains that the elder Penn eventually reinstated William and enabled him to obtain the grant of land in the American colonies where he established a haven of religious freedom.
