Content Description
Footage shows staff at the Spartan Mill in Spartanburg, SC. Scenes include presentations of sewing and homemaking clubs, children swimming in a river, children dancing and performing in costumes, Boy Scout troop lining up for flag raising ceremony, baseball game between Startex and Spartan Mills company teams, mill workers at company picnics, playing horseshoes, outdoor concerts by Spartan Mills community band, Christmas celebration in the mill building, fishing and feeding ducks in a pond near the mill building, painting outside, yard work and gardening in the mill village, mill workers show newspaper clipping about Senate race, children's costume party. Some footage of workers in the mill tending to spinners.

Collection Description
This film collection consists of 173 films shot by Walter S. Montgomery, Sr. of Spartanburg, South Carolina from c.1926 to 1987. The collection contains 108 16mm films, 15 8mm films, and 50 Super 8mm films. The films cover a wide range of subjects, and many have comprehensive lists on the cans of the people and events depicted. Many are family films covering birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and graduations. Others cover hunting and fishing trips with friends, as well as vacations and travel. Several films depict life and work in Startex Mills, and trips to various countries in Europe and Asia concerning the textile business. The Montgomery family donated the collection to William Richardson of South Carolina ETV. Richardson would then donate the collection to MIRC in 2012.
