Silver Jubilee of Progress - Los Angeles County Fair

Description: Documentary film of the 21st Biennial Convention of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (CACA), held in September 1951 in Oakland, California. Much of the focus of the film is on the men and women attending, the speakers, and the social interaction of a cross section of elite members of the Chinese American community. Settings vary from the most formal to a relaxed barbecue in Tilden Park. The CACA is a significant national organization of Chinese Americans formed to petition for and protect the civil rights and interests of the Chinese American community. The film includes footage of Y. C. Hong, the first Chinese person to pass the California Bar Exam in 1923 and a tireless champion of Chinese American civil rights.
