[Host Bob Kennedy] Feel all and very gently please, feel all over. If they tell me what this is, [Co-host Vivian Frau] Take it easy now. [Kennedy] for twenty five dollars. [Kennedy] Bob, just an idea, can we have you turn that way just a little. That's fine. Okay now, that's good. One, two, three, guess it! [Boy contestant] A bird! A peacock! [Kennedy] Peacock is right! [Children shriek and cheer] [Kennedy] Very good guys. Patty. It's all yours. [Organ music swells] [Kennedy] You know folks, these early Spring days remind you that, well as far as I'm concerned, this is just about my favorite time of the year. [Kennedy] And if you let me get my crystal ball into focus, I'll show you a wonderful suggestion, [Kennedy] in fact, just about the perfect way to spend one of these early Spring afternoons. [Kennedy] Now, here's a young man who has exactly the right Idea. [Kennedy] Yes, he's gotten out of his car, he picked up his favorite girl and he headed for this beautiful spot in the country. [Kennedy] Now, you see he supplied the, ah, portable radio for some soft music. [Kennedy] And his girl made the sandwiches and fried chicken for a big outdoor lunch. [Kennedy] And to make everything just about perfect, they brought along a cooler full of bottles of ice-cold Coca-Cola. [Kennedy] Yes, and by the way, let's get a good close up of that cooler. [Kennedy] Because that Coke cooler could mean a lot of fun for you too, wherever you go. On picnics, long motor trips, hunting, fishing or camping. [Kennedy] It's made of very fine, sturdy material [knocking noise], as you can well see. [Kennedy] It's easy to handle and let me show you just a little bit about its construction. [Kennedy] We've cut away a section of it so you can see that it's made of galvanized steel, [Kennedy] and It contains an Inch and a half, all around the sides, an inch and a half of, ah, [Kennedy] that's fiberglass insulation. To be sure to keep your Cokes good and cold. [Kennedy] Now, let me show you what's inside. This is an important part of It too. [kennedy] There's a very useful sandwich tray for holding your sandwiches or what, whatever else you've brought along for your lunch. [Dinging noise] [Kennedy] And let me get you a little picture of the inside right here. [Dinging noise continues under narration] [Kennedy] It'll hold as many as 24 bottles of ice-cold Coke. The ice and the bottles all included. [Kennedy] And just for a limited time, you can get this wonderful Coke cooler, instead of paying twenty five dollars, you can get It for only fifteen dollars. [Kennedy] It's a real steal. Remember only fifteen dollars for this Coke cooler. [Kennedy] And the name and address to write to is, The Coca-Cola Bottling Company. [Kennedy] And the address is, Coke Cooler, Murray Hill Station, That's Box 2, New York 16, New York. [Kennedy] Now this coke cooler can add a lot of pleasure to your trips, wherever you go, because always remember, that Coke in the bottle is a natural! [Organ music flourish] [Vivian] Now, folks we are all set to go with Dolores Silva for the Saint Joseph's School of Connecticut and Donald Avram for Woodmere Academy. [Vivian] And this round was sent in by Phillip Carmine of Astoria Long Island and, [Vivian] I want you to know Bob, that David Menken Is the second person ever, to have a perfect score. The whole round, every single question right. [Kennedy] Well, gee, I think that's really wonderful. That only means a very important thing. [Kennedy] In your particular case, Dolores, you're gonna have to try very very hard, because you're up against very very keen competition here. [Kennedy] However, don't lose heart, just because you're a little bit behind, there's a hundred fifty dollars at stake. [Kennedy] You can do it. Many teams have come from the rear position. Now, at stake now, is five dollars, testing the keenness of your sense of sight. [Kennedy] I didn't mention of course, that ten dollars goes to Phil Carmine of Astoria, with our thanks from The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York. [Kennedy] This is five dollars, testing the keenness of your sense of sight. [Kennedy] We'll set you on the far position and I'll put you right over here in this case, Dolores. Don, I'll put you over there by Vivian. [Kennedy] I'm gonna ask you to write some numbers on the board. [Kennedy] In your case, ah, Dolores, I want you to choose a number from one to ten and write it on the blackboard, anywhere at all. [Kennedy] That's good and Don, you take a number from ten to twenty and write It anywhere on the blackboard. [Kennedy] All right would you choose another number now, Dolores. Another number, a number from one to ten. [Kennedy] And Don, you, another, another number from ten to twenty. [Kennedy] All right, and one more for you, Dolores. And, one more for you, Don. [Kennedy] All right now, would you turn around face into the camera and I'll get right out of the way here. We're gonna look right into camera one. [Kennedy] That's the one that's on you see, and my question, think very carefully before you answer, [Kennedy] because I will give you only one guess but we could have two right answers. Would you tell me the number, [Kennedy] which is nearest to the upper border of the blackboard. The number which is nearest to the upper border of the blackboard. [Kennedy] And as a matter of fact Instead of speaking out I think it'd be better if you whispered in my ear. And Don whispered in Vivian's ear. [Don] Mine? [Vivian] No, nearest number on the blackboard, that's near the top. Yours or hers. Is that, [Don, whispers] Eight. [Vivian] Eight is right! [Kennedy] Eight of hers and they're both right! That's five dollars apiece starting the second round. Let's hear for them! Come on, now! [Applause, organ music] [Kennedy] Now, we have a musical setting of a sound question. It's a very wonderful song, by the way. And it was written by, let's see if I can remember them all. [Kennedy] That's Ervin Drake, Irvin Graham, Jimmy Shirl and Al Stillman. [Kennedy] Now, that's a lot of fellas to write this song but believe me the result was well worth it. Hope you like it. [Organ intro music] [Kennedy singing] I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows. I believe that somewhere in the darkest night, A candle glows. I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come, to show the way. I believe, I believe. I believe above the storm, the smallest prayer, will still be heard. I believe that someone in the great somewhere, hears every word. Every time I hear a newborn baby cry, or touch a leaf, or see the sky. Then I know why, I believe. [Holds note] [Organ music swells] [Applause] [Vivian] That's beautiful, Bob, just beautiful. [Vivian] Now you want, we want speed or, ah, [Kennedy] Yes, we want speed in this particular case. A first answer, speak up with the answer as quickly as you know how, for ten dollars. [Vivian] Did you listen to Bob? [Kennedy] How many men wrote the song? [Dolores] Four! [Don] Four! [Hand clap from Vivian] [Kennedy] Four, that's right! And that's ten dollars for Saint Joseph's School starting the second round! Let's hear it for them! [Organ music and applause] [Kennedy] Twenty dollars for South Norwalk against eighty dollars for Long Island, but anything can happen. And this next is worth fifteen dollars. That's right. [Kennedy] Goggles on. [Kennedy] Passing the keenness in this case of your sense of smell. [Announcer, sotto voice] This is Balogna. [Kennedy] Covered? At the count of three, the cover is going to be lifted off. At another count of three, we're gonna bring it right up to your nose. [Kennedy] Tell us what this is, as quickly as possible. [Kennedy] You're just a little closer, Dolores, I'll move you back just a trifle. That's good. [Kennedy] One, two, three, cover off. One, two, three, what is it, quick! [Dolores and Don] Um, pickles! [Kennedy] What!? [Dolores] Cat food. [Don] Um, onion. [Kennedy] No, come on. [Don] ? [Kennedy] No. [Don] Um, um, white fish. [Kennedy] It's a meat. [Dolores] Ah, liver. [Kennedy] No. [Vivian] It's a meat. [Don] Um. Pickles! [Vivian] No, it's a meat. [Kennedy] No. [Don] Um, um. [Kennedy] Come on. [Dolores] Um. [Don] Um. [Kennedy] Come on. [Dolores] Cheese. [Kennedy] No. Come on. [Don] Roast beef, ham, um bologna! [Kennedy] Bologna is right! [Applause, organ music] [Kennedy] That's the way to do it, my friends! That's exactly what it is, five categories. [Kennedy] And now at stake is twenty dollars. The score is twenty dollars against ninety five dollars for Woodmere Academy. [Kennedy] Twenty dollars at stake in this case, testing the keenness of your sense of taste. [Organ music] [Kennedy] Okay. [Announcer, sotto voice] They will taste Brazil nuts. [Organ music] [Kennedy] Okay, good. Count of one, Is gonna go to your chin. Ready? [Vivian] This is an exact answer, now. [Kennedy] Yes, an exact answer in this case. [Kennedy] One to the chin. [Vivian] Open your mouth now. [Kennedy] And, [Kennedy] two, three, quick! [Dolores] Walnuts. [Don] Almonds. [Dolores] Pistachios. [Kennedy] No. [Don] Almonds. Pistachios. [Kennedy] No. [Dolores] Ah. [Don] Um, you know, walnuts. [Kennedy] No. Come on. [Don] It's in a shell. It's a snack. [Kennedy] Walnuts are in a shell. What else? Come on. [Dolores] Almonds. [Don] Peanuts. [Don] Pecans. [Kennedy] No. [Don] Ah, walnuts. [Kennedy] No, come on, you're wasting time. Want another little taste? Come on, speak up, what is it? One and two, what is it quick? [Don] Almonds. [Dolores] Almonds. [Kennedy] No. [Dolores] Ah. [Vivian] Come on, keep going. [Kennedy] Come on, Dolores. Don? [Don] The long ones. [Kennedy] I'm afraid that isn't enough of a description. I'm sorry I can't give you anything for that. [Kennedy] If you had said, take a look at what It was. You know the name of It when you see it? [Kennedy] Would you? [Vivian] Brazil nut. [Kennedy] Neither one of them knew it by name. Well, I'm sorry They both lost the chance of twenty dollars. It was a Brazil nut or a Butter nut. [Vivian echoes] [Kennedy] Now, we needed the exact answer in that case. Both of you lost a chance at twenty dollars. [Kennedy] Put your blindfolds on now and you can take your nose plugs off because in a moment, [Kennedy] we're going to have you touch something which we want you to identify, for twenty five dollars. [Kennedy] I think I'll take that down just a little bit more, there, Don. And I'll have you both stand up. [Kennedy] Could I do that, please. [Kennedy] That's good and ah, I'll have you, suppose we go around the back, Vivian. [Kennedy] And I'll move one of these chairs aside. That's good. [Kennedy] Now, I'll tell you in advance. [Kennedy] We're going to have you touch some, [Announcer, sotto voice] This is umpire, Bill Stewart. [Kennedy] With one hand feel all over and tell me what this man does for a living. A very exact answer in this case. [Kennedy] Oh, right here, Vivian. No, no, right here would be the spot. Right there and feel all over tell me what this is as quickly as possible. [Kennedy] Feel up, down. Feel all over. One hand. You got Don's hand, Vivian. [Vivian] Yes. [Kennedy, chuckling] How you doing? Count of one, two, three, what is it? [Don] A ? [Dolores] A man who, [Kennedy] What'd you say? [Don] A catcher. [Kennedy] No. [Dolores] A man with a thing. [Kennedy] No, no it's not a catcher. [Don] It's an umpire. [Kennedy] Umpire! he said it! And that's twenty five dollars for Woodmere Academy! [Organ music, applause] [Kennedy] And by the way, not just any umpire, but, Bill Stewart, the dean of National League umpires! Let's hear it for him, come on! [Applause, organ music] [Kennedy] Now, Bill I'd like to talk to you, just a moment. Vivian would you take the folks over here and get 'em a nice cold bottle of coke. [Kennedy] Just how long have you been umpiring Bill, could you tell us that? [Bill Stewart] This is my twenty first year in the National League. [Kennedy] Really? Well, you know we feel a good deal in common with you, because of these quick decisions we have to make here. [Kennedy] A lot of times, you know, there's so much goes on and so fast that it's very hard to, to always make exactly the right decision. [Kennedy] How do you feel about the decisions that you've made. [Stewart] Well, I always feel good. I had two very close ones today. One went one way and one went the other. One went for Brooklyn and one against them. [Kennedy] You call them just as you see them. [Stewart] As you see them. You don't have any chance to take any pictures. [Kennedy] Oh, let me, let me ask you this. Just how do you feel about the present-day ballplayers compared with ballplayers of let's say twentyone years ago. [Stewart] Well, we have a lot of great ballplayers today of course and ah, [Stewart] years ago like Ruth and Cobb and, ah, [Stewart] Walter Johnson. Some of those great players, they were really, [Stewart] ah, terrific. And today we have a lot of great ballplayers too in our League and in the American League. You can't hardly, ah, compare them, because the lively ball has changed the game a lot. [Kennedy] Speeded it up a good deal. [Stewart] That's right. [Kennedy] And ah, what would you feel is the closest, the tightest type of decision, that you're called upon to make. [Kennedy] What sort of a play involves the most difficult type of decision. [Stewart] Well, we have a lot of ah, close plays on blind tag plays and then these half swings. [Kennedy] Mm, hmm. [Stewart] Like a batter swings at a ball or, [Stewart] it's a question whether he broke his wrist or not. And those are always very difficult to call. [Kennedy] Well, Bill I certainly enjoy talking to you. As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to keep you here for hours, but time is of the essence. We can't do that, Vivian? [Vivian] How about a Coke? [Kennedy] Yeah, how about it, are you thirsty? [Stewart] You know, I missed out on this today. After the ballgame every day I have one of these, and today I hustled so to get over here, I missed out. [Kennedy] Well, well, [Stewart] I need this. [Kennedy] We're making up to it now. Well, enjoy it because, [Kennedy] we certainly enjoyed having you with us. Audience how about it? [Applause] [Kennedy] Thank you very much! [Organ music and applause] Well, after seeing somebody in the baseball regalia, I guess you don't have to be reminded that summer is just around the corner. And by the way, I want you to take a look at this picture. [Kennedy] Speaking of hot weather, what do you do when you feel as hot and as tired and as thirsty, that you, [Kennedy] well, you just don't know what you're gonna do to, to get over that terrible feeling. [Kennedy] Well, my advice is take a little time out. Yes, in a spot like this, when you're hot, tired and thirsty. [Kennedy] There's nothing like a Coke. Cokes are natural. And that's because Coca-Cola is naturally refreshing. [Kennedy] Naturally delicious. And just naturally everybody's favorite. And that's because Coke in the bottle is an exclusive blend of delicious, [Kennedy] natural flavorings. And there's not a drop of imitation coloring or flavoring ever in Coca-Cola. [Kennedy] And, by the way, just as I reminded you, what with the warm weather coming on, you know at the place where you work, It's always good to have a Coke coin cooler on hand. And if you don't have one, now's the time to speak to your boss about it. Yes, just remind him, all he has to do is get in touch with The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New York, Incorporated. And the address is, Coke Cooler, that's Murray Hill Station, Box - Two, New York, 16, New York. [Kennedy] And by the way, tell your boss that the Coke coin cooler collects, [Kennedy] actually pays for itself, in almost no time at all, because remember. Wherever you are, whatever you do, Coke in the bottle, is a natural! [Organ music flourish] [Vivian] And now, bringing up the rear for the last round it's Anita Adamski, for the, ah, Saint Joseph's School in Connecticut and over here is Jane Gilbert for Woodmere Academy. [Kennedy] All right. [Vivian] The round was sent in by Mrs. Grace Palomino of Newark, New Jersey. [Kennedy] All right, good of you, Mrs. Palomino. Our thanks and ten dollars to you from Coca-Cola. This is testing the keenness of your sense of sight. [Kennedy] Look directly into the camera, both of you. For five dollars, tell me whether or not your opponent has any bobby pins in her hair. [Jane] Yes. [Anita] Yes. [Kennedy] They both say yes. Do you have any in yours? [Jane] No. [Kennedy] No. Do you have any in yours? [Anita] No. Neither one of them have and they're both wrong, both losing five dollars. [Vivian] Oh no. [Kennedy] At stake now is ten dollars, testing the keenness of your sense of hearing. Goggles on. [Kennedy] Well, you weren't so observant either one of you, were you? All right, let's bring that table out. Goggles on. [Dinging noise in background] [Kennedy] In a moment, we're gonna have a sound which we want you to identify as quickly as possible. Let me help you, Viv. [Kennedy] For ten dollars, and would you set yourself for just a moment. We gotta let him get a good shot there. And then after that, [Kennedy] we'll have you make a sound. [Announcer, sotto voice] This is a rocking chair. [Kennedy] For ten dollars. Ready, Viv. What is this noise? Listen. [Anita] A rocking chair! [Kennedy] A rocking chair is right! And that's ten dollars for Saint Joseph's School, okay! [Organ music, applause] [Kennedy] For fifteen dollars, the keenness of your sense of smell. Goggles on. The count of three, the covers coming off. Another count of three, we're gonna bring it right up to your nose. Ok. [Announcer, sotto voice] They will smell disinfectant. [Organ music] [Kennedy] Three, the covers coming off. One, let me help you Viv, two and three. What is it, quick! [Anita] Fish! [Kennedy] No. [Anita] Leather. [Jane] ? [Vivian] No. [Anita] Um, plastic, leather. [Kennedy] No. What? Quick! [Jane] Um. Oh! [Anita] Um, um. [Kenendy] Come on. [Jane] Cold cream! [Vivian] No. [Kennedy] That's not right. Either one of you, come on. [Anita] Alcohol. Vinnegar. [Kennedy] No. Come on. [Kennedy] Come on, what is it? [Jane] Wax. [Vivian] No. [Kennedy] No. [Kennedy] Take a deep breath, come on. [Anita] ? [Kennedy] No. Take a deep breath, Anita. [Anita] ? [Kennedy] No. [Jane] Wax. [Kennedy] No. [Vivian] It's not wax. [Both girls] ? [Kennedy] No. [Vivian] Take a sniff. [Kennedy] Sorry, time's up. It was a disinfectant. Both of you lost the chance. [Kennedy] It was CM, as a matter of fact, the disinfectant. [Kennedy] Both of you lost a chance of fifteen dollars. At stake now, is twenty dollars testing the keenness of your sense of taste. [Kennedy] And boy, we'll have to speed right along here. [Vivian] Nose clips. [Kennedy] Nose clips for this one, by the way. You need it in addition to goggles. [Kennedy] Gonna give you something to eat. Tell us what this is as quickly as possible. [Kennedy] Oops. There it goes. Here it is. Ready to go? [Dawn] Ready. [Kennedy] Twenty dollars at stake. [Kennedy] Good. Can you see anything. [Kennedy] Okay. Cover come off. Come on, Viv, we've got to fly right with it. [Announcer, sotto voice] This Is orange marmalade. [Kennedy] What this is, for twenty dollars. Ready, one to the chin and two it's in, quick. [Anita] Orange marmalade! [Kennedy] Absolutely right, and that's twenty dollars for Saint Joseph's School! Right there, folks! [Applause, organ music] [Kennedy] Okay, now, twenty five dollars for your sense of touch. Take your nose clips off, leave your goggles on. For twenty five dollars, tell me what this item is. [Kennedy] Goggles are on? Let's show it. [Announcer, sotto voice] These are faucets. [Kennedy] or something. [Kennedy] I think this way, Viv. That'd be the way, huh. All right, flat palm please and you're both right handed? Oh, your left handed, are you? All right. [Kennedy] Put your other hand behind your back, don't bring it to play unless we tell you. Count of three. [Kennedy] [Knocking noise] One. [Kennedy] Two. [Kennedy] And three, what is it? [Jane] ? [Anita] A faucet, a water faucet! [Kennedy] She said it! That's twenty five dollars for the Saint Joseph's School! [Applause, organ music] [Kennedy] And there's one for you. In a moment folks, we'll have a high jackpot contestant. But, right now let's sing a little of our favorite song, which starts Coke is a natural. Yes, sirree. Coke in a bottle, naturally. [Chorus singing] Coke is a natural. [Female singer] Yes, sirree. [Chorus] Coke in the carton, naturally. [Kennedy singing, fingers snapping underneath] Now everybody get yourself a carton of Coke. [Kennedy and Chorus] Have a nice cold, ice cold bottle of Coke. [Kennedy and chorus] Refreshing and delicious as a drink can be. [Kennedy] Coke is a natural. [Chorus] Yes, sirree. [Chorus] Coke in the bottle. [Female singer] Yes, sirree. [Chorus] Coke in the carton. Naturally. [Kennedy] Yes sir, folks, Coke in the bottle Is a natural. [Organ music] [Vivian] Here he is, Bob, the boy with the perfect score, David Menken. [Kennedy] Well, you couldn't do any better than you did, Dave. Congratulations, to you. [Kennedy] You showed a lot of skill with your five senses today and running up a score of, a perfect score of seventy five dollars. [Kennedy] How do you think you want to make out with a sixth sense, a sense of Intuition as you try for three hundred and fifty dollars. [Kennedy] What's your guess? [Dave] Five. [Kennedy] He's picking number five. [Kennedy] No,good, huh. I heard somebody speak out in the audience with a good loud voice. Somebody said, [Yelling from audience] "Number one!" just a moment ago. [Kennedy] I just want to settle this out, because he thought it was number one. [Kennedy] It wasn't number one, but if instead of that we had taken number two and put number two in the key hole, [Kennedy] Out would have come Vivian with three hundred and fifty dollars! [Kennedy] That means on friday, our jackpot Is going to be worth three hundred seventy five dollars! [Kennedy] Anyway, Dave, congratulations to you.
