Description: Portrays the seed as a careful package of an embryo adapted for dispersal and survival. Points out variety in size of some common garden plants. Shows how adaptations for transportation disperse the coconut, milkweed, and acorn seeds. Diagrams the corn and lima bean seeds stressing the reproductive parts of each. Explains dormancy as caused by the state of the embryo, inhibitors, or the impermeable seed coat. Germination of seeds shown by time-lapse photography shows heat given off and oxygen consumed.
