Security Is Your Responsibility (1957, sound)

[Music] this is Harry Bumble a real great guy Harry's a very busy man like I said he's a real great guy everybody likes [Music] him he's a very capable Young Man educated and all that loves his family and they love him he spent two years in the Army and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and he's conscientious and hardworking Harry is third assistant establishing designer in charge of working up a better Razzle foring Caravans for the integrated reacting Sears snacket in other words he's designing the little wedge that a welder puts between his clamp and his work when the clamp he has is too big and he has to use it because it's all he has handy and he doesn't want to walk back to the clamp Locker it almost works too but security-wise Harry is naive what you heard me you don't know what security is what do you mean I've got my ID card right here it's uh there see oh that's fine you have your ID card handy well what's the matter what about the rest of it rest of what security oh we've got guards to take care of that they do it all huh sure that's what we pay them for that's so sure they do their job I do my job and we're all happy and they take care of it all that's what I said all of it say what's the matter with you anyway did you ever compromise classified material huh did you ever let anything slip look I'm no blabber mouth oh I know that but maybe the wrong person might see or hear something you shouldn't something you're working on so now I'm giving away the atomic bomb no but others have some without meaning to they forgot to abide by the rules that were set up for their own protection the simple Common Sense things like locking their safes or their file cabinets or not handling documents properly or safeguarding the information they contained security regulations are something that we all have to remember we must protect ourselves by protecting the information we handle I don't know enough to make me important it isn't always the big things the little things add up in the hands of the right person the little things mean a lot a glance at some [Music] calculations a slip of paper or tape a cas a [Music] remark all right all right I'll abide by your red tape regulations red tape regulations I'll wear a badge and lock my desk when I go home at night but I still say we've got guards for that sort of thing we'd have to put a permanent guard on everyone in the business gapo practically permanent permanent whyly to maintain security expensive [Music] uh-huh bothersome yep guards can't do it all uh-uh so so what if information had leaked out what if everyone just didn't care we'd have no security at all our greatest defense weapon the greatest deterrent to an allout War our scientific achievements will be thrown away we have to stay ahead in the race for technological superiority I care about security I really do but but what well I'm busy with my work here and all well for Pete's sake I haven't done anything wrong nothing really wrong but nothing really right what do you mean by that look at your desk so I'm busy any classified information there no I wouldn't leave out anything that was classified anything comes around here that's classified I always make sure that I get it put away what's the matter oh nothing nothing at all I just those files I was just using them a minute ago you don't expect me to keep them locked all the time do you no but you left your office well I just went out see well Harry all you have to do is use common sense and follow the rules when you're handling Vital Information remember what it would mean to you and your family and to your friends if classified information got into the wrong hands remember that security depends on every one you work with and on you sure I see security is my responsibility and yours [Music] oh
