Shows the struggle for survival of millions of tiny sea turtle hatchlings who must race across beachheads to the sea before they become victims of predators. Describes how the female turtle lays eggs on the beach and then returns to the sea, leaving the eggs to hatch on their own. Makes clear that although many of the hatchlings are killed by predators, enough always survive to return to the same beach years later to again lay eggs and renew the cycle of survival.
