Description: This film is a travelogue created by Norman Schley, an exceptionally skilled filmmaker who was based in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Some of his films, including this one, aired on television. Schley would also tour with his films, presenting them to live audiences and narrating them in person. This "Schley Ride" presents a trip to Quebec, Canada. The film opens with an advertisement for a distribution company though the remainder of the film is about the city of Quebec in Canada. The film is presented by Schley (:14) and distributed by F.R. Dengel Co. wholesale plumbing distributors (:14) in Milwaukee Wisconsin. A box of EZ Kleen Air Filters is advertised as well as a can of Valdura Zone Marking Paint (:30) both of which are manufactured by the F.R. Dengel Co. (:46). The film then moves to Quebec, Canada (1:43). A skyline view follows of Quebec as a boat approaches the harbor (1:50). The Chateau Frontenac (owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway) rises in the background built in 1893 (2:21). The Pacific Railway spans the dominion from coast to coast (2:30). A mile long million-dollar tunnel links the railway to the harbor (2:40). Large quantities of grain move through the harbor (2:49). A closer glimpse of the Chateau Frontenac (2:57) follows with a view through the arched gates which were once the fortress of the walled city. The area is well known for the Battle of Chateau Frontenac in 1758 during the Seven-Year War (3:06). A traffic cop guides vehicles around the area which has become an important social center (3:14). Here a statue is pictured in the center of the promenade of Samuel the Champlain (3:46). A large ferry boat moves through the waters of the St. Lawrence River (4:02). A cannon juts out on top of a historic embattlement site (4:20). On the highest point of Cape Diamond sits the Citadel (4:31). The large columns of the massive structure are zoomed in on (4:45). Not far from this historic site, is Quebec’s oldest house (5:12); the Maison Montcalm which had been built in 1674. The Hotel Chateau Normandie is viewed (5:28). Modern buses and automobiles move through the streets (5:35). The Breakneck Steps move pedestrians to Little Champlain Street and the lower town area (5:49). A few civilians move through the wholesale district of the lower town (6:01). Young tourists crowd around a window display (6:08). The Hotel Louis XIV (6:29) appears prior to a shot of a statue of the bust of Louis XIV (6:39). The suburbs of northern Quebec are seen with three story houses and spiral staircases riding their way up (6:55). The Kent House is pictured as what was once the summer house of the Duke of Kent (7:09). A boy rides a cart pulled by a large dog in front entranceway (7:14). Montmorency Falls (7:44) topples over with water derived from the Montmorency River. Shots of the countryside show farm homes (8:07) facing out towards the highway. The camera zooms in on intricate rugs and blankets hanging from these vendors (8:50). A woman uses a hand loom (8:56) to produce home spun linens. An outdoor bread oven follows (9:53) as a woman moves in close to check on a loaf of bread. The same woman sells her hot bread along the roadside (10:17). Trim white cottages of a motel overlook a small lake (11:00). Professional fire eaters and sword swallowers; Madeline and the Red Marvel (11:27) paddle through the motel lagoon on a small row boat.
