Safety Adventures Out Of Doors (1959)

school's out and when it's warm weather everyone has plans for out of doors it's easy to have fun outside and being safe is part of having fun anywhere sandy and Jimmy go to the lake with their parents they have invited Mary and Frank to come along with them it was fun having Miriam Frank along there in the same grades as Jimmy and I Frank couldn't wait to get in for a swim he even had his bathing trunks on under his clothes Frank wait thank goodness I stopped him they're rocks just under the water where he was going to jump that might have been the end of his vacation right then of course we all got in as fast as we could one thing we had to explain to Mary Anne Frank is that we always swim in pairs that way there's no danger of someone getting into trouble without help being around Frank applying to go out in deep water but Jimmy wouldn't let him he couldn't swim well enough for that we had kids here who got into trouble by swimming out and forgetting that it's just it's far to swim back Mary's a good swimmer and a smart one too she knew enough not to go out too far we didn't stay out very long that first day we hadn't been getting much Sun lately and it's easy to get sunburned before you know it Jimmy and Frank didn't want to come in but we told them they'd better unless they wanted to get a bad burn our picnic on the island was the most fun of all Frank thought to the life jackets were a big nuisance but Jimmy knows how important they can be he fell overboard once we showed Mary Anne Frank how to get into a boat by stepping into the middle of it we always make sure that everything is in good shape before we go out in the boat first of all of course it has to be good weather we see that the oars are working alright and if there's a can to bail out water if we have to I warned the voice about walking around in the boat it's one way to fall out or even turn the boat over and then Tim of all people started to rock the boat I thought he knew better than I it was too bad about the camera but I think he learned his lesson we had lots of flood on that picnic but there was one time we had a scare we thought the boat was drifting away but I hadn't forgotten to tie it tight I guess I did it out of habit that's a good thing about playing safe all the time it gets to be a habit and then you do things safely without having to think about them that makes everything a lot more fun sandy has many other habits of safety around the water they are habits everyone should follow to have fun swimming and in a boat bill spent his vacation camping out with his dad setting up camp was fun but it was hot work and a drink of water tasted fine we brought along her own water to start with and there was a running stream close by where we got more when we ran out but of course we didn't dare drink it until after it had been boiled for 10 minutes there's lots to see in the woods I kept checking landmarks as we walk I didn't want to get lost it's a good thing I was looking around too I spotted some poison ivy just before I stepped into it three leaves with that special shape I'm getting so i can tell poison ivy every time that had gotten a fire permit and rebuilt a fire in a clearing where there was no danger of it spreading safety with fire is one of the most important things on a camping trip we made sure the fire was out and closed before we turned in boy that camping trip was fun more fun than I've ever had before bill and his dad have many other important habits of safety when they camp out they know that safe habits mean more fun of course not everyone goes away for a vacation Larry and his friend Mike stayed at home I had lots of fun at the playground just across the street from my house but some kids don't know how to have fun of the playground I haven't seen mr. Belton there before he is a playground supervisor he said he needed some help with the smaller children someone might get hurt acting that way he asked me if I wanted a job it was fun helping other kids have fun the safeway Larry knows that habits of safety are just as important around home on the streets and playgrounds as they are at the lake or camping out sandy and Bill and Larry all have habits of playing safe that help them have fun remember how Sandy's habit of playing safe made her typepad boat remember how bills habit of playing safe kept him out of that poison ivy remember how Larry helped other people to be safe on the playground yes playing safe is a good habit to learn
