“Road Atlanta Runoff” 1977 SCCA amateur racing championship Datsun 280z

The tradition of the Road Atlanta Runoffs is 14 years old and with each year the event has grown in size and importance. Competing here this November will be over 500 drivers driving a wide variety of cars. Most of these cars will be sports cars similar to those manufactured for ordinary street drivers. Of these, some will have been so highly modified as to be barely recognizable. Others will remain almost as they come to the showroom with little more than numbers on the doors and a roll bar for safety. A few will be pure racing cars, open wheel single seaters like this one built exclusively to be raced. Year-long competition nationwide has produced the best cars and drivers from the thousands who compete. These few will race here for the national championships.
