This is a live recording of a 1960s party/dance band, playing at a school dance or club in the National City / Chula Vista / San Diego CA area. It was recorded by a high school student named Steven Marak, who apparently had a relatively decent recording rig for the time. I rescued these tapes from Marak's estate sale, where I found them in a dusty, forgotten box in the garage. If I hadn't bought them, they'd almost certainly been thrown in the trash. They represent a rare peek into what such working bands in the 60s sounded like. I should also note that one Tom Waits was a schoolkid in the area at the time of these recordings, and was likely familiar with the bands on the Marak tapes.
