Rescue Range Area - Ignition Burn

Description: Rare footage of extreme fire behavior observed during the October 4, 1958 "Pole Line fire" near Etiwanda in Southern California. Shows multiple large fire whirls ("firenados") and corkscrewing smoke columns documented from the air, believed to have been taken from a USFS observation plane taking images of early air tanker drops. Used extensively in the 1960s - 1980s for training firefighters about fire behavior. This fire was also well documented contemporaneously in local news sources. "Firestorm - wildland fire good for fire behavior"; 3 min color no sound. "Denny's Etiwanda fire master"
