Description: Summarizes the work being done to determine the best location to drill through the "Moho" and shows the techniques used to investigate the ocean bottom and the layers of earth under it. Depicts the activities of the research ship "Vema" in the ocean over the Puerto Rican Trench including use of sonar, coring, and using hydrophones in making seismic recordings of explosions. Drawings are used to show how the information from these investigations can be used to chart the ocean bottom and the layers of the earth under it. It is suggested that studies of core samples may give indications of previous life on the earth.
