Description: In July 1961, President Mohammad Ayub Khan of Pakistan, accompanied by his daughter Begum Nasir Akhtar Aurangzeb, paid a state visit to the United States which included a stop in Texas. This silent film, shot by Austin film maker Gordon Wilkison, documents his journey to Texas, where he visited San Antonio and Vice President Johnson’s ranch in Stonewall. President Ayub’s Texas journey included some of the standard events of a foreign dignitary’s state visit. Upon landing at Randolph Air Force Base, near San Antonio, he attended a ceremonial military review and parade, and then travelled via motorcade to the Alamo where he spoke and laid a memorial wreath. The final stop in Texas is the LBJ Ranch in Stonewall, for a barbecue hosted by Vice President Johnson in President Ayub’s honor. Highlights of the barbecue include entertainment by Master of Ceremonies, Cactus Pryor and musician Eddy Arnold, and the presentation of a saddle and ten gallon hat to the visiting president.
