Pompeii - Once There Was A City

Complete catalog record
The ruins of Pompeii, destroyed by volcanic eruption in 79 A.D., are explored as a means of recreating the everyday lives of it’s citizens. Gradually, the scenes of Pompeii begin to intercut with scenes of modern life-merchants’ activities, political campaigns, crowds at a boxing match, a couple enjoying a play and an evening stroll. Slowly, the focus deepens to suggest that Pompeii’s doom, following on an era of unprecedented material prosperity, also may have contemporary parallels.
