Description: Views three performance contracts operating in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in the fall of 1971 from the perspectives of a child, a teacher, and a principal. Shows that each program takes a different approach to learning using various combinations of contingency management, hardware, free rooms, and learning centers. Offers, through statements by company representatives, school officials, and children, a summary of the opinions and feelings of those involved in the programs at the beginning of the second year. Expresses some reservations as to the programs' impact on the school system.
