millions of kind-hearted people wonderful people wonderful pennies they've done a great job for the due know which has been done there are now nearly 90 special centers for spastics all Britain yes 90 where spastics can get the the right treatment and schooling and training let me show you a few pictures now here's the craigy park school near Cardiff the wford pickle school near Stanford ingfield Manor a Pioneer School for backward children where some of the kids are partially deaf Hawks with Hall br were very handicapped children get the chance to show they can be educated the Thomas deloo grammar and secondary school TBD first of his kind in the world and cwell Court run by the Stars Organization for spastics it's a holiday home where many children have had the first holiday of their lives sherids where spastics trained for industry and residential centers for grownup spastics like prested Hall darbury Kum Farm why there's hardly a large town in Britain which hasn't got a center clinic or school or workshop I'll say dotted around the old blooming country they [Music] [Applause] [Music] are but wait a minute mate hold it this still isn't enough not enough Governor what do you mean what I say just listen to what Dr Stevens has to say he's the director of the Society no of course it's not enough there are some 7 ,000 spastics in Britain many of whom need treatment education training employment advice and care and we've got big plans for helping them this is a model of one of our projects a residential sheltered workshop in Birmingham for 120 spastics and it'll be the first center of its kind in the world it's been very specially designed for instance many of the rooms are six-sided that's because spastics particularly those in wheelchairs haven't much use for square corners here's part of the central section of a new special school at meld for those children who never be able to learn very much Oakwood a special unit in essics for youngsters with mainly academic interests wakes hall for the elderly it's being set up by the Stars Organization for spastics that's your show Harry we're also building a residential work center at harow and we're doing lots of other things as well so it's all going to take quite a lot of pennies I say it will whoops hey watch out there's also our child health Research Unit at gu hospital it's costing over2 million installed with the latest equipment in a long patient untiring effort to find out why children are born and what to do about it research takes time and a great deal of money but the work must go on if we are to reduce the number of handicapped children born every [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] year this little piece of apparatus is an electron microscope which will mag ify nearly half a million times the cost £10,000 but the value to human life quite beyond measurement yes we're going to need those pennies very urgently right there's no time to lose pennies H [Music] raade oh
