Explains that Allan Pinkerton, on a mission to prevent sabotage of the Philadelphia-Wilmington-Baltimore Railway by Southern sympathizers in 1861, uncovered a plot by Baltimore secessionist fanatics to assassinate President-elect Lincoln as he passed through the city. Shows Pinkerton arranging with Lincoln to change the published schedule of his inauguration trip, isolating Baltimore from telegraphic communication to forestall any warning to the plotters, and accompanying Lincoln as his bodyguard through Baltimore in the early hours of the morning of February 23, 1861.
