Description: This television special, Pageantry in Wool, documents the week of the Miss Wool of America Pageant in 1963. The special follows the contestants as they arrive in San Angelo, attend special events set up for them to meet the community, go on a short tour across Texas, ride in parades, and participate in the pageant. At a community breakfast for the contestants, Governor John Connally makes an appearance, and the Four Saints play their popular song, “Bugler’s Holiday” at the pageant. British actor Roddy McDowall acts as one of the judges of the pageant. Throughout, the program emphasizes the glamour of the Miss Wool Pageant. The Miss Wool of America Pageant took place annually from 1952-1972 in San Angelo, sponsored by the National Wool Growers Association, the American Sheep Producers Council, and the Wool Bureau, Inc. Miss Wool represented the wool industry nationally, touring the country in the latest woolen fashions.
