Description: Presented by REA Express, this 1960s industrial film promotes the company’s Air Express cargo transportation service. With the support of its Surface Express ground transportation network, REA is able to safely and swiftly deliver packages to destinations around the country, whether or not they have direct air service. In 1918, the United States government took over and merged the major express carriers to establish the American Railway Express Company. Ten years later, 86 of the nation’s railway companies joined to form the Railway Express Agency, purchasing the American Railway Express Company in 1929. The company was renamed REA Express in 1960. Before competition from the United States Postal Service and United Parcel Service drove the company to declare bankruptcy in 1975, REA operated the largest ground and air express service in the country. Robert Yarnall Richie, who produced this film, was a freelance industrial photographer and filmmaker who worked with various large corporations in Texas and around the globe.
